2/3 cup soft shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
2 1/4 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda

Take a 13 x 9 inch pan and fit in a same size waxed paper and keep aside. Mix shortening and sugar to forma good cream. Add eggs one by one and beat them well. Add in the melted chocolate. Fold in flour, salt, baking soda and buttermilk alternatively. Pour the batter into the 13 x 9 pan which is kept ready. Pre heat the oven and bake the cake at 350 degrees for 40 45 minutes. When the cake is ready turn it out and remove the waxed paper. The cake is ready.

Useful Tip: Always use fresh items when you bake a cake for a good end product. Baking powder and baking soda used should always be fresh. Never use an old one. To make sure that the baking soda used is new mix it with some vinegar. Similarly mix the baking powder with some warm water. You can see many bubbles coming from the mixture. When there are no bubbles it is understood that the baking soda or baking powder is stale.

Icing:

3 squares unsweetened chocolate
3 tbsp. butter
1 pkg. powdered sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
7 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 cup cut marshmallows

Sieve sugar and salt into a bowl and keep aside. In a double boiler melt butter and chocolate. Add milk and vanilla essence to the sifted sugar and mix well. Then add the boiled chocolate and butter. Add nuts and pour marshmallows on the cake. Then add the icing on the top of it.
