2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
3/4 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup boiling water
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix cocoa, flour and baking soda and sieve them together. Mix together sugar powder and the shortening agent. Add eggs to the mixture (eggs need not be beaten). Add the sifted flour and butter milk alternately. Next add boiling water and then vanilla essence. Mix well to make a complete batter. Take a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan and pour the batter. Preheat the oven and bake the cake for half an hour at 350 degrees.
Useful Tip for Baking: How to make this recipe when there is no buter milk with you. It is very easy. To make of butter milk instantly add lemon juice or vinegar to regular milk and set aside. Your butter milk is ready within 5 to10 minutes.
Cooked Chocolate Icing:
1 1/2 cups sugar
7 tbsp. milk
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tbsp. white syrup
4 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
To make cooked chocolate icing mix all the ingredients (except vanilla) and boil them. Let it cool and beat them well into a smooth texture enough to spread it on the cake. Now add vanilla essence. The icing is ready.
Facts The yellow color found in butter is not natural. Butter was colored with marigold flowers since middle ages to bring this yellow color.
